Riżorsi Agrikoli Malta (RAM) has opened an Agricultural Greenhouse Plastic Waste Collection Scheme for registered farmers who operate and actively use agricultural greenhouses. The agency says the service is intended to organise the collection of eligible plastic waste generated by those greenhouse activities.

Who can apply

Applicants must be registered with the Agriculture Directorate and provide a valid Farmer Registration Number and Farmer Categorisation Certificate. The greenhouse must be on agricultural land registered with the relevant authorities, and the application must identify that land. RAM says submitting an application does not itself guarantee collection; each application is assessed against the scheme requirements.

What the scheme can collect

The official scheme page lists greenhouse plastic sheeting, plastic covering materials, agricultural mulch films and irrigation tubing, as well as other agricultural plastic materials approved under the scheme. Waste must come from the applicant’s own eligible greenhouse activity and must be separated from household waste, hazardous material, excessive soil, excessive organic matter and other ineligible material.

How collection is arranged

Eligible farmers apply through the official RAM scheme page and provide details about the greenhouse, registered agricultural land and waste. If an application is approved, RAM contacts the applicant with a collection date and arrangements. The prepared waste must be accessible at the agreed collection point.
