Access to Bridge Wharf Quay in Malta’s Grand Harbour will remain restricted until Thursday, 31 December 2026 while repair works continue, according to a new Transport Malta notice.

Local Notice to Mariners No. 184, dated 25 September, extends the arrangements first issued in March. The latest notice says all requirements and restrictions in the original notice remain in force for the duration of the works.

What mariners need to observe

The original Transport Malta notice, Local Notice to Mariners No. 028 of 2026, says a silt curtain is laid around the work areas and that work may be carried out from land and by scuba divers displaying International Code of Signals flag A.

Mariners and vessel owners are instructed to travel at very low speed without creating a wake near the area, remain at least 10 metres from the silt curtain and cooperate with the contractor on site. They must also follow instructions issued by Valletta VTS on VHF channels 12 or 16 and by enforcement personnel.

The notices identify British Admiralty chart BA 177 as affected. Anyone navigating or arranging access around Bridge Wharf should consult the official notice and its chart before travelling.
